Security Drones – Eyes in the Sky
Police are using security drones for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. As they have been so successful Northern Queensland state government are investing nearly a million dollars in drone technology.
The drones are being referred to as RPAS – Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems. They feature AI technologies for tracking vehicles. As well as thermal imaging cameras for locating lost people.
Premier Annastacia Palaszzuk says the community will be able to feel safer knowing police have these new, state of the art resources.
Will the updated Security Drones make their way to NZ?
Police in NZ are already using security drones as one of the tools in their arsenal but it will be interesting to see if we will have access to the new AI Technology Queensland is deploying.
NZ is currently hosting the Women’s Rugby World Cup. In 2023 we will be hosting along with Australia the FIFA Women’s World Cup. These are big events where these new technologies would be a massive help to our police in keeping everyone safe and secure.
