Council Partners with Cops to link Private CCTV to Police Database
A West Australian council is offering local businesses and residents a rebate if they register their Private CCTV systems with a state-wide police database.
The City of Kwinana is offering $50 rebates for existing CCTV systems to be registered with the Cam-Map WA database. The council believes that linking private CCTV systems to the police database will improve public safety.
The Mayor Carol Adams says that the “aim of the CCTV rebate scheme is to increase the number of privately-owned CCTV cameras registered through the WA Police Cam-Map system. This will provide additional intelligence in the investigation and prevention of crime”.
Other local Governments in the area have asked that the public link their Private CCTV to the Police Database but this the first time a rebate has been offered.

It will be interesting to see what the uptake is and if it is something that Councils and the Police would look at in NZ.
